This month's workshop is with Marley Gibson and Julia Richardson

Creating a Symbiotic Author-Editor Relationship

An author’s working relationship with his or her editor is one of the most important collaborations of your writing career. In this workshop, Marley Gibson, young adult author of the popular Ghost Huntress series from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Graphia line and her editor, Julia Richardson, will discuss how to make the most out of developing your relationship with your editor from hitting your deadlines, brainstorming, copyediting, cover collaboration, working with the marketing department and other items to help promote your book in the most successful way possible.

Marley Gibson is the author of the young adult fiction series, Ghost Huntress, including The Awakening (May 2009), The Guidance (September 2009), and The Reason (May 2010), and two more title. She has also penned a non-fiction book with Haunting Evidence star, Patrick Burns, and host of Darkness at the Edge of Town radio show, Dave Schrader entitled The Other Side: A Teen’s Guide to Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal. Gibson has also penned another non-fiction book, Christmas Miracles, co-authored with Cecil Murphey, New York Times bestselling author of 90 Minutes in Heaven, an October 2009 release from St. Martin’s Press in hardcover. Gibson was featured on the premiere episode of The Biography Channel’s My Ghost Story, as well as being interviewed by CNN.com for a Halloween 2008 feature. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Communication from The University of Alabama and has more than twenty years experience in event planning and marketing. An avid traveler, closet gourmet chef, and ghost huntress in her own right, Marley resides in Boston.

Julia Richardson has been in children’s publishing for nearly twenty years, beginning her career with Macmillan Children’s Books but also working for Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, and Hyperion/Disney. She is currently Editorial Director of Paperbacks for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Books. She has had the pleasure of working with such authors as Ellen Hopkins, D. J. MacHale, R. L. Stine, Niki Burnham, and Marley Gibson. When she’s not working, she enjoys hanging out with her family and baking. Lately, she’s gotten into cake and cupcake decorating. Luckily, everything has tasted much better than it looked.
